I don’t know about you guys, but I usually have a hard time winding down from a busy work day. Too many things buzzing around my head by the time I get ready to lay my head down in my bed. Sitting at a desk can make your back and shoulders tense. Not to mention the stress on your hips and back from sitting in a car, bus or train on the way to and from your job. The rushing about. The commute. The endless list of things to get done. Add some kids into the mix and you might as well multiply your stress levels by two. By the time that you get home, how can you relax your body and mind to get a peaceful nights rest?

Recently, I have expanded my yoga practice to a before bedtime session. Getting in touch with my breath helps me calm my mind and get to a place of relaxation for a comfortable rest. An easy routine, like any of these from Tara Stiles of Strala Yoga Studios Bed Time playlist, can help you release tension and relax your body. My personal favorite from this list is Before Bed Time Yoga. I really find Plough Pose to be relaxing for whenever I need a pose to help me destress. Tara spends most of the routine in Plough Pose and shows a few different variations. During this pose you can alleviate the stress you carry in your shoulders and lower back, but Plough Pose is not for everyone; This pose does put a lot of pressure on the back and neck so if you have any issues with or have had injury to this area definitely have a look at one of the other routines on Tara’s playlist. I would suggest Yoga For Bed time with Tara Stiles. This routine has you lying down in a natural position for sleep. You can easily turn over and fall asleep after you are done.

So the next time your day stresses you out to the max, put on your most comfy PJ’s and try out one of these routines to help get a great nights rest.
